How an intense workout made me rethink my meal choice and meal time

When i was in high school, we had a PE class every Saturday. It was very exhausting. The curriculum consisted of a series of athletic like exercises in a large stadium. One of the exercises was running around the whole stadium running track which scarred me forever.

One morning i decided to eat pasta a couple of hours before the workout as opposed to lighter things I used to eat. When I arrived at the stadium, i felt energized. Then, i started running. For some reason, i decided to go extremely fast. Wrong choice.

I paused to catch my breath and my stomach started to act out. Then, the vomiting started.

I was not sure what happened. I thought i digested enough. Maybe i was sick. Maybe the workout was too intense.

Plus, i thought i was doing the right thing by following what was said on the internet. How beneficial the pasta was.

Then, my coach informed that i should not eat pasta two hours before my workout. It would be better to have something lighter. He then gave more water.

I continued the classes with the advice in mind. I switched my meals and never had to deal with any discomfort.

I don’t completely remember everything i ate, but i did try some soups, bread, and even boiled eggs.

One thing is for sure is that after high school i started to pay closer attention to the time of the meals and the type of meal for each workout. In addition, it took me some time to figure out which workout fit with pasta.

I am certain that after an intense workout a well balanced meal is necessary and that should be at least an hour after the workout. Even in some fast foods (which we go often for and not the best option) contain some proteins and carbohydrates.
